Wandelen met een opdracht - Genesis 17:1

Thema van de toespraak: ‘Wandelen met een opdracht’ n.a.v. Genesis 17:1

Uitnodiging
Wandelen oftewel leven met de Heere God, wie wil dit niet? Als je daar geen zin in hebt, weet je niet wat je zegt. Met Hem leven, is pas echt leven. Dan komt je leven tot het juiste doel. God staat dan op de eerste plaats in je leven. Je raakt verbonden en verknocht aan Hem. 
De vorige keren hoorden we hoe dat het geval was bij Henoch en Noach. Zij wandelden met God. 
De Heere was alles voor hen en Hij wilde alles voor hen zijn. Jezus was hun lust en leven. Door Hem, de grote Tussenpersoon, wandelden ze met de Heere. Ik wil je uitnodigen om hun voorbeeld te (gaan) volgen. Dat doe ik door Abraham, de grote wandelaar met God, voor het voetlicht te halen. 
In Genesis 17 nummer 1 krijgt hij van God de opdracht om met Hem te wandelen. 

Abraham
Abraham is geboren 2166 jaar voor Christus. De geschiedenis van Abraham is dus bijna al vierduizend jaar oud. Twintig eeuwen voor Christus speelde zijn geschiedenis zich af. We leven nu twintig eeuwen na Christus in een hele andere wereld. 
In de Bijbel heeft Abraham twee bijnamen gekregen. ‘Vader van alle gelovigen’ vanwege zijn vaste geloof in Gods belofte. Maar ook wordt hij genoemd ‘De vriend van God’ vanwege zijn vertrouwelijke omgang met de Heere. En daar gaat het om. Hij wandelde met de Heere.
Dit wandelen van Abraham wordt letterlijk een leefstijl. Hij is steeds op reis. 
Wat dat betreft heeft Abraham geen rustig leven gehad. Maar wel een zeker en gelovig leven. 

Moed houden
Misschien heb jij ook geen rustig leven. Ondanks dat je wandelt, leeft met de Heere. 
De Heere heeft Zijn kinderen geen kalme ‘reis’ beloofd. Wel een behouden aankomst in de hemel. 
Als je door Jezus met God wandelt, is de valkuil aanwezig dat je verwachting inzakt. 
De kunst is dan om te blijven doorlopen als je geestelijk moe bent geworden. Je moet niet in de berm van het leven gaan slapen als je moe bent. Ook Abraham heeft dat niet gedaan. Wel ging Abraham soms onderuit door z’n liegen en bedriegen. 
Wie blijft een kind van God in zichzelf? Geen beste. Al het goede dat ze hebben, hebben ze van de Heere Jezus. Door het geloof in Hem heeft Abraham volgehouden. 
Laat de moed dus niet zakken als je vastloopt. Ook Abraham is vastgelopen. Toch hield hij vast aan Zijn Heer en God. Luister maar.

Gods spreken
Abraham en Sara, zijn vrouw, hadden geen kinderen. Toch had de Heere aan Abraham beloofd dat ze een zoon zouden krijgen. Ondanks die belofte raakt Sara niet zwanger. Intussen gaan de jaartjes tellen. Abraham is negen en negentig en Sara negen en tachtig.
Zeg nu zelf: kun je dan nog kinderen krijgen? Nee toch. Dat is toch onmogelijk. Het zou toch niet raar zijn als Abraham de moed zou laten zakken?
In die omstandigheden komt de oproep van de Heere tot Abraham om met Hem te wandelen (vers 1). 
Er staat in de Bijbel dat de HEERE aan Abraham verschijnt en tot hem sprak. 
Door dat spreken wordt Abraham helemaal in beweging gebracht. Hij gaat er echt voor zitten. 
Misschien herken je het. Je pakte je Bijbeltje of je luisterde naar een toespraak. Tot je verrassing tikte God je als het ware op je schouder. Wat je las of hoorde lichtte op. Het kon niet missen: dit was Gods stem. En dan tot jou… Je kan het niet klein krijgen.

Almachtig
Wat zegt de Heere tot Abraham? Ik ben God, de Almachtige. Oftewel de El-Schaddai. Dit moeilijke woord betekent: de Ontzagwekkende. Ik ben die Ik ben. 
Zo stelt de Heere Zich aan Abraham voor. Met andere woorden: jouw planningen Abraham, stellen niets voor bij Mijn almacht. Ik regel alles. Voor Mij is niets onmogelijk. Jullie zijn al erg oud om een kind te krijgen. Naar de mens gesproken is dit onmogelijk. Maar geen nood, Ik maak dit mogelijk. 
Ik vervul al Mijn beloften. Ook al lijkt het onmogelijk. 
Ook vandaag maakt de Heere het onmogelijke, mogelijk. Hij vervult Zijn beloften. 
Ik hoop dat je er ervaring mee hebt.

Onder Zijn hoede
De Heere zegt dat Hij voor Abraham de Almachtige wil zijn. Hij zegt ook wie Abraham voor Hem moet zijn. Abraham moet voor Zijn aangezicht wandelen. Steeds dicht bij Hem blijven.
Voor Zijn aangezicht wandelen of leven, betekent: Abraham moet onder Gods hoede blijven. 

Zoals een schaap onder de hoede van de herder moet blijven. Zoals een kind op het strand in de nabijheid van moeder moet blijven. Moeder wil het kind steeds onder haar hoede hebben. In een onbewaakt ogenblik gaat het anders de zee in en verdrinkt. 
Voor Gods aangezicht betekent ook niets stiekem doen. Een open boek, transparant voor Hem zijn.
Als we iets achter Gods rug om doen, worden we steeds ongelukkiger. Daar houdt de Heere niet van.
Hij wil dat we gaan leven in Zijn hoede. Jezus is immers de goede Herder. Hij wil dat we ons bekeren. Dat we naar Hem gaan. Hem nodig krijgen in alle dingen van ons leven. 
Als we ons bekeerd hebben, wil Hij dat we ons steeds opnieuw bekeren. Dat we steeds meer in Zijn hoede zullen leven. Dat Jezus meer en meer de goede Herder voor ons wordt. Daar ziet Hij naar uit.
Daar worden we gelukkig van. Dat is pas leven. Dan hebben we niets voor Hem te verbergen. 
Dat we Hem ook eerlijk belijden als we (opnieuw) onderuit zijn gegaan. 
Hij wil onze zonden graag vergeven. Hij wil dat we gelukkig worden of nog gelukkiger worden. 
Dat Christus je eten en drinken wordt. Zijn schapen horen net als Abraham, Zijn stem en ze volgen Hem. Jezus volgen: dat is onder Zijn hoede blijven. Heerlijk. 

Een opdracht
Welke opdracht krijgt Abraham mee? Lees maar mee: ‘zijt oprecht’. Dit betekent een onberispelijk leven leiden. Gaaf zijn. Uit één stuk zijn. Niet van twee walletjes eten. Niet de katjes in het donker knijpen. Halfslachtigheid daar houdt de Heere niet van. De Heere houdt van eerlijke mensen. 
Misschien denk je: tjonge dat is nog al wat. Wie kan dit? Ik zal je niet in het onzekere houden: niemand vanuit zichzelf. Ook de geloofskampioen Abraham niet. 
Hoe moet Abraham, notabene een bekeerde, deze opdracht dán in praktijk brengen? 
Door op Jezus de goede Herder te zien. Door in Hem blijvend te geloven. Onder Zijn hoede blijven. Als er Iemand was Die voor Gods aangezicht wandelde en oprecht was, was Hij het. Hij deed dit uit liefde tot Zijn Vader, maar ook tot redding van Zijn schapen.  
Ook wij kunnen alleen maar oprecht, helemaal gaaf zijn, door het geloof in Jezus. 
Daarom is het broodnodig dat je Jezus het Brood des levens, leert kennen met je hart.  
Door het geloof in Jezus ziet God de Vader je voor een oprechte aan. Het is misschien te mooi om waar te zijn, maar het is echt zo.
Je kunt het vergelijken met een kind dat nog niet kan schrijven. Bij het schrijven bestuurt vader de hand van het kind. Zo schrijft ze de mooiste letters. Vol trots laat ze dit aan moeder zien. 
Moeder weet dat vader voor die mooie letters heeft gezorgd.
Zo weet Vader in de hemel dat Jezus voor de oprechtheid zorgt van Zijn kinderen. Aan Zijn hand schrijven ze de ‘mooiste letters’. 
Zorg er daarom voor dat je de Heere Jezus leert kennen met je hart. Ken je Hem? Laat deze kennis verdiept worden. Dan kom je er achter dat jij er niets van maakt om oprecht te zijn. Maar aan Zijn hand ben je meer dan oprecht. Zo krijgt Hij de eer. God zij gedankt voor Jezus! Amen.

The theme of the speech: "Walking with a mission' w.r.t. Genesis 17: 1

Invitation
Walking i.e life with the Lord God, who would not like it? If you do not feel like it, you do not know what you say. Living with Him is real life. Then your life hit the correct target. God is then in the first place in your life. You become attached and devoted to Him.
The previous times we heard how  this was the case with Enoch and Noah. They walked with God.
The Lord was everything to them, and He wanted to be everything to them. Jesus was their pride and joy. Through Him, the great Intermediary, they walked with the Lord. I want to invite you  to follow or start to follow their example. I do that through Abraham- the great companion  in walking with God- putting on the stage. In Genesis 17 verse 1 he is ordered by God to walk with Him.

Abraham
Abraham was born in 2166 BC. The story of Abraham is nearly four thousand years old. His history took place twenty centuries before Christ. We live twenty centuries after Christ in a total different world.
In the Bible, Abraham has been given two nicknames. "Father of all believers' because of his firm belief in God's promise. But he is also called "the friend of God" because of his intimacy with the Lord. And that's what counts. He walked with the Lord.
This walking of Abraham got a literal way of living: He is always traveling.
For that matter, Abraham has not had a quiet life. But doubtless a sure and faithful life.

Keep courage
Perhaps you have no quiet life as well. In spite of walking, living with the Lord.
The Lord has promised His children no calm "journey". However, a safe arrival in heaven.
When you walk through Jesus with God, the pitfall is present that your expectations collapse .
The trick is to keep moving if you become spiritually tired. You should not go to sleep on the roadside of life when you're tired. Also Abraham did not do so. However, Abraham sometimes  went astray  through his lies  and cheating.
What remains of a child of God  if seeking himself ? All the good they have, they've got from  the Lord Jesus. Only through faith in Him Abraham sustained .
So don't lose heart if you get stuck. Abraham broke down . Yet he stuck to his Lord and God. Just listen.

God's speaking
Abraham and Sarah, his wife, had no children. Yet God had promised Abraham that they would have a son. Despite that promise, Sarah does not get pregnant. Meanwhile, the count of years go on. Abraham was ninety-nine and Sarah and eighty-nine.
Ask yourself: can you still get children that age? Oh no. That's impossible. Surely it would not be strange if Abraham would become dejected?
In those circumstances, the call of the Lord comes to Abraham, to walk with Him (verse 1).
It says in the Bible that the Lord appeared to Abraham and spoke to him, by which speaking Abraham is quite agitated. It got all his attention.
Maybe you recognize it. You picked your bible or you listened to a speech. To your surprise  God tapped as it were on your shoulder. What you read or heard lit up. It could not miss: this was God's voice. And then to you ... You can not understand .

Almighty
What saith the Lord to Abraham? I am God Almighty. Or the El-Shaddai. This difficult word means: Awesome. I am who I am.
In this way the Lord presents Himself to Abraham. In other words, your schedules ,Abraham, are nothing in comparison with My omnipotence. I control everything. nothing is impossible for Me. You are already very old to have a child. Humanly speaking, this is impossible. But do not worry, I will make this possible. I fulfill all my promises. Even if it seems impossible.
Also today the Lord makes the impossible, possible. He fulfills His promises.
I hope you've experienced it.

Under His care
The Lord says He wants to be the Almighty for Abraham. He also says who Abraham should be be fore Him. Abraham must walk before His countenance. Always staying close to Him.Walking or living before His countenance means: Abraham must remain under God's care.

As a sheep should remain under the care of the shepherd and  as a child has to stay in the vicinity of the mother on the beach. Mother wants always have her child under her care . In an unguarded moment  it may go into the sea and get drowned.
Before God's countenance also means doing nothing secretly. Being an open book and transparent to Him. If we are doing something behind God's back, we become increasingly unhappy, since the Lord does not like that. He wants us to live under His care. Jesus is indeed the Good Shepherd. He wants us to repent. That we go to Him. Need Him in all things of our lives.
If we have repented, He wants us to always repent again and again. That we will increasingly live in His care. That Jesus becomes more and more the good shepherd  for us. That's what He looks forward to. That makes us happy. That's real life. Then we have nothing to hide from Him.
That we honestly confess to Him if we (again) have gone astray. He wants to forgive our sins. He wants us to be happy or even happier.
That Christ becomes your food and drink. His sheep hear, like Abraham, His voice and they follow Him. Follow Jesus: that's to stay  under his care. Lovely.

A mission
Which mission  does Abraham get? Read with me: 'be upright'. This means living  an impeccable life. Be cool. Be candid. Not having it both ways. Not saint it in public and sin it in secret. The  Lord does not like half-heartedness . The Lord loves honest people.
Perhaps you think: that's quite a challenge. Who is able to come up with it ? I will not keep you any longer in suspense: no one from himself. Neither the champion of faith: Abraham.
How is Abraham, if you please, a convert, be able to put this command into practice?
By seeing upon the Good Shepherd Jesus. By believing in Him permanently. Staying under his care. If there was Someone who walked before God and was sincere, He was. He did this out of love for His Father, but also for the salvation of His sheep. Also we can only be upright, totally sincere, by faith in Jesus. Therefore, it is highly necessary that you get to know Jesus the Bread of Life with your heart.Through faith in Jesus, God the Father takes you for a sincere one. It may be too good to be true, but it's true.
You can compare it to a child who can not write yet. When writing  father's hand controls that of the child. In this way she writes the most beautiful letters. She proudly show it to mom.
Mother knows that Father has been the maker of those beautiful letters.
Likewise Father in heaven knows that Jesus sees to the sincerity of His children. Controlled by His hand they write the 'most beautiful' characters.
Therefore, make sure that you learn to know the Lord Jesus with your heart. Do you know him? Let this knowledge be deepened. Then you find out that you really don't  got it made to be sincere. But controlled by His hand, you are more than sincere. So He gets the glory. Thanked be God for Jesus! Amen.
