Wandelen / niet wandelen met God - Psalm 1:1-4

Thema van de toespraak: ‘Wandelen / niet wandelen met God’ n.a.v. Psalm 1:1-4

Een aantal weken zijn we bezig met het thema: ‘Wandelen met God’. Verschillende namen zijn de revue gepasseerd. Vandaag gaat het niet zozeer over een persoon. 
Vanuit Psalm 1 zullen we horen wat het wandelen met de Heere voor uitkomst heeft. Maar ook wat het niet wandelen met Hem voor uitkomst heeft.  

Hooggestemd
De schrijver van deze psalm zet hoog in: Welgelukzalig. Dit is een woord dat wij niet meer gebruiken. Toch herken je er bekende klanken in. Het gaat over wel-zijn, over geluk en zalig zijn. 
We vragen weleens aan elkaar: is het wel? We bedoelen dan: gaat het goed? 
Het woordje geluk kennen we ook. We zijn allemaal gelukzoekers. Het woord zalig is ook bekend. 
We zeggen wel eens dat het zalig weer is. Of wat een zaligheid. Met andere woorden: het kan niet op.
De Bijbel vat deze woorden samen: Welgelukzalig. Dit woord kom je vaak tegen in de psalmen.
Het is allergelukkigst. Het toppunt van geluk. Vol van God zijn. Wie is dat?

Doodongelukkig
Er kunnen tijden zijn in je leven dat je je intens gelukkig voelt. Bijvoorbeeld als je geslaagd bent voor een examen. Of als je op het punt staat in het huwelijk te treden. Of als je een nieuwe baan hebt.
Maar al dit soort geluk is heel broos. Er kan zomaar een kink in de kabel komen. Nee, het hoogste geluk kan nooit liggen in dingen die voorbijgaan. Welgelukzalig is niet die man met dat fijne huwelijk. Of die man met een goede baan en een dikke auto. Ook niet die knappe vrouw met dat mooie figuur. 
Wanneer we niet meer hebben dan al deze dingen, zijn we ten diepste doodongelukkig.  
Wie is dan wel gelukkig?

Drie keer niet
Wie is gelukkig? De man, jongen, vrouw of meisje die niet wandelt in de raad der goddelozen. 
Dus die niet meegaat en meedoet met hen die kwaad doen.  
Ook hij of zij is gelukkig die niet staat op de weg van de zondaren. Dus die van zondigen geen gewoonte maakt. 
Wie is nog meer gelukkig? Hij of zij die niet zit in het gestoelte van de zondaars. Die met spotters niet aan één tafel zit. Oftewel: die geen relatie met spotters opbouwt. Alsof het de beste vrienden zijn. 

Drie parallellen
In deze woorden zit een drievoudige negatieve opklimming. Het gaat over wandelen, staan, zitten.  
Als je zo af en toe een bekende zonde doet wordt wandelen genoemd. Meer aan die zonde toegeven wordt staan genoemd. Als je op den duur in die zonde gaat leven, gaat het over in zitten.  
Parallel aan deze drievoud is: raad, weg en stoel. Goddelozen, zondaren en spotters. 
Hopelijk zie je de drie parallellen. Lees deze psalm thuis nog maar eens aandachtig na.
In deze drie parallellen zie je dat leven zonder God een hellend vlak is. Het gaat van kwaad tot erger. Dat loopt uit op een total loss. Op een eeuwige mislukking. Op een eeuwige hel.  
De andere kant is als je zo niet leeft, ben je welgelukzalig. Vol van het echte intense geluk. 
Vol van God. Vol van de Zaligmaker en Heiland Jezus. Dit wandelen, dit leven met de Heere loopt uit een eeuwige heerlijkheid. Een eeuwig leven met de Heere. 

Niet ver
Goddelozen, spotters en zondaars. Waar moet ik die zoeken? Onder de criminelen, onder IS-aanhangers? Onder mensen die met de politie en justitie in aanraking komen? 
Nee, goddelozen zijn mensen die los van God leven. Loos betekent zonder. Mensen die hun eigen spoor trekken. Dat kunnen ook mensen zijn die naar de samenkomsten komen en hun Bijbeltje lezen.
Zondaren zijn mensen die niets hebben met de liefdewetten van de Heere. Die zelf uitmaken wat goed en kwaad is. Ook die instelling moeten we maar niet te ver weg zoeken.
Spotters zijn mensen die met het heilige van God en met God Zelf spotten. Die Hem negeren. 
Die Zijn bestaan ontkennen. Die gewoon zeggen: er is geen God. Intussen spotten ze wel met God en misbruiken ze Zijn Naam. Eigenlijk typisch. Iemand die volgens jou niet bestaat bespot je toch niet? Zijn of haar naam misbruik je toch niet?  

Geestelijke apotheek 
Wat is het leven van de welgelukzaligen, van de wandelaars met God? Zijn diepste vreugde vindt hij of zij in de wet van de Heere. Met die wet is hij of zij dag en nacht bezig.
Bij wet moet je niet alleen denken aan de tien geboden die zondags gelezen worden. 

Met wet wordt de leer van de Bijbel bedoeld. Daar leeft een wandelaar mee. 
De Bijbel is zijn beste Boek voor de weg. Zijn navigatie. Daar wil hij steeds meer van weten.
Dat is zijn eten en drinken. Dat is zijn geestelijke apotheek. Voor elke kwaal vindt hij er iets in. 
Bij een geestelijke verkoudheid krijgt hij antibiotica. Alle bacteriën worden daarmee gedood. 
Bij een geestelijke depressie, krijgt hij antidepressiva. Door opnieuw de liefde van de Heere Jezus te zien, worden ze opgebeurd. Krijgen ze weer moed en kracht. Wat zijn de welgelukzaligen gelukkig. 

Boom
Wandelaars met de Heere, de welgelukzaligen, worden met een boom vergeleken. Niet zomaar een boom, maar één die geplant is aan waterbeken, aan stromend water. Daar zuigt de boom het water op. Zelfs in een droge zomer komt die boom niets te kort. Dan haalt die boom nog zijn sappen uit de waterbeken. Zo’n boom komt nooit iets te kort. Elk seizoen draagt die boom vrucht.  
Wat een mooi voorbeeld. De man, vrouw, jongen of meisje die echte vreugde vindt in de Bijbel is welgelukzalig. Vol van God. 
Er ligt zegen in het wandelen met de Heere. Wat dat betreft komt hij of zij niets te kort.  
Door de Welgelukzalige bij uitstek, Jezus, worden ze welgelukzalig gemaakt. Deze Zaligmaker doet Zijn Naam eer aan. Dit wil niet zeggen dat ze zich altijd welgelukzalig voelen. Vaak zijn ze geestelijk zo nameloos ‘arm’. In zichzelf missen ze geloof, hoop en liefde. Missen ze welgelukzaligheid. 

Niet wandelen
Mensen die niet leven met de Heere, blijven wandelen op de brede weg. Dat is letterlijk een doodlopende weg. Ze lijken gelukkig. Hun leven gaat ook voor de wind. Maar volgens de schrijver van deze psalm een verkeerde wind. Zoals kaf door de wind wordt weggeblazen, zo vergaat het goddelozen. 
Kaf is het omhulsel van graankorrels dat overblijft na het dorsen. Het is heel licht. Het stelt niets voor. Dat kaf stuift door de wind alle kanten op. Tenslotte is het nergens meer te vinden. 
Zo vergaat het mensen die weigeren met de Heere te wandelen. Met Hem te leven. Hun leven eindigt in de hel. Het klinkt hard, maar ook dit moet gezegd worden. Er zit hartelijke liefde achter. 

Geplant
Het is niet nodig dat je als kaf na je dood wegstuift in de hel. Je kunt en moet wedergeboren worden. 
Let dan nog even op die boom. Die boom is geplant aan waterbeken. Die boom heeft zichzelf daar niet geplant. Maar door de hovenier is hij daar als klein stekje geplant. Zo is de boom gaan groeien.  
Wedergeboorte kun je vergelijken met geplant worden aan de waterbeken van Gods zegeningen.
De grote Hovenier wil je planten aan Zijn waterbeken van zegeningen. Dat doet Hij door Woord en Geest. Dan ga je als die boom vruchten geven op Gods tijd. Vruchten van bekering en geloof. 
Die in de Heere Jezus geloven, worden door Zijn Geest als een ‘kanaal’. Door dat ‘kanaal’ stroomt het levende water naar anderen (Johannes 7:38). Ze worden een lichtend licht voor anderen. 
De Bron Jezus zegt nu nog: Zo iemand dorst heeft, die kome tot Mij en drinke (Johannes 7:37). 
Drink uit deze Bron en wordt zo een ‘kanaal’, een zegen voor anderen. 
God zij geprezen voor Jezus Christus. Amen.

The theme of the speech: ' Walking with and without God '  w.r.t. Psalm 1: 1-4

We have been working for a couple of weeks on the theme: "Walking with God". Several names have been reviewed. Today it is not so much about a person. From Psalm 1 we will hear what's the result of walking with the Lord. But also the consequences if we don't walk with Him.

Highly tuned
The writer of this psalm aims high: Blessed. This is a word we do not use anymore. Still, you may recognize familiar sounds in it. It's about well-being, about happiness and salvation.
We sometimes ask each other: is it well? We mean: Are you fine? The word happiness we know as well. We are all adventurers. The word blessed is also known. We sometimes say that the weather is blissful. Or what a bliss. In other words, there is no limit.
The Bible summarizes these words: Blessed. This word is often mentioned in the psalms.
It is the happiest state. The pinnacle of happiness. To be  full of God. Who is that?

A deadly unhappiness
There may be times in your life that you feel intensely happy. For example, if you have passed an exam. Or if you are about to marry. Or if you have a new job.
But this type of happiness is very fragile. There just may be suddenly a hitch somewhere. No, the highest happiness can never lie in things that pass. Blessed is not the man with that fine marriage. Or the man with a good job and a high performance car. Not even that pretty woman with that beautiful figure.
If we do not have more than all these things, we are deeply unhappy.
But who is really happy?

A three times not
Who is happy? The man, boy, woman or girl who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked. So they who don't go along and  join them who do evil.
Also he or she is happy that do not stand on the way of sinners. So those who don't make a habit of sin.
Who is happy as well? He or she who does not sit in the seat of sinners.  Who doesn't sit  with mockers at one table. In other words: who  doesn't build a relationship with mockers. As if they were best friends.

Three parallels
In these words is a triple negative climbing -up. It is about walking, standing, sitting.
If you occasionally do a known sin it is called walking. To relent increasingly to that sin the word standing is mentioned. If you're eventually going to live in that sin, it's worded by sitting
Parallel to this triplicate is: counsel, way and seat. Wicked men, sinners and mockers. ( ungodly-sinners-scornful )  A.V. (King James)
Hopefully you can see the three parallels. Read this psalm attentively at home once again.
In these three parallels you see that life without God is a slippery slope. It goes from bad to worse. That turns into a total loss. Into an eternal failure. into an eternal hell.
The other side is if you do not live that way, you are blessed. Full of real intense happiness.
Full of God. Full of the Saviour and Redeemer Jesus. This walking, this life with the Lord results in an everlasting glory. An eternal life with the Lord.

Not far
Wicked men, mockers and sinners. Where can I find them? Among the criminals, IS-supporters? Among people who come into contact with the police and the judiciary? No, wicked people  are those who live destitute of God. Destitute means without. People who draw their own track. That may also be people who come to the meetings and read their bibles.
Sinners are people who won't care a straw concerning the laws of love of the Lord. Who decide for themselves what is right and wrong. Also this tendency or attitude we should not look too far away.
Mockers are people who  mock at the holy things of God and at the Holy One Himself. Who ignore Him. Who deny His existence. Who simply say there is no God. Meanwhile, they  mock at God and abuse His Name. Actually a typical phenomenon. Someone who does not exists you do not mock, do you ? You don't  misuse his or her name, do you?

Spiritual pharmacy
What is the life of the blissful ones, of the walkers with God? His deepest joy he or she finds in the law of the Lord. With this law, he or she is busy night and day.
By law you must not only think of the Ten Commandments which are read on Sundays.
By law, the teaching of the Bible is meant. That's a doctrine a walker sympathizes with.
The Bible is his best book for the road. His navigation, his nav-sat. He wants to know more and more of it.
That's his food and drink. That is his spiritual pharmacy. For every ailment, he'll find something in it. When  he spiritually catch a cold,  he gets antibiotics. All bacteria are thus killed. At a spiritual  depression, he receives anti-depressants. By seeing the love of the Lord Jesus again, they are uplifted. Get courage and strength again. What are the blissful ones happy.

Tree
Hikers with the Lord, the blessed ones,  are compared to a tree. Not just any tree, but one planted by streams of water, along running water. Since the tree sucks the water. Even in a dry summer that tree doesn't suffer from a deficiency of water. Even then that tree still draws its juices from the water streams. Such a tree is never short of anything. Every season the tree bears fruit.
What a fine example. The man, woman, boy or girl that finds real delight in the Bible is blessed. Full of God.
There's blessing in walking with the Lord. In that respect he or she will not go hungry.
They are made blissful by the par excellence Blissful One, Jesus. This Saviour does His Name credit. This does not mean that they always feel blessed. Often they are spiritually so nameless 'poor'. In themselves they lack faith, hope and love. Yea, they miss out on blessedness.

Not walking
People who do not live with the Lord, continue to walk in the broad way. That is literally a dead end. They seem happy. Their lives are thriving They are sailing before the wind.. But according to the author of this psalm  a wrong wind. As chaff blown away by the wind, so the wicked perish.
Chaff is the shell of corn grains which remains after threshing. It's very light. It's nothing. That  chaff blows about by the wind in all directions. Finally, it is nowhere to be found.
So people will fare who refuse to walk with the Lord. Refuse to live with Him. Their lives end in hell. It sounds harsh, but it must be said. There's heartfelt love behind these words.

Planted
You need not to be blown away like chaff into hell after death. You can and must be born again.
Then look for a moment at that tree. That tree is planted by streams of water. That tree hasn't planted itself there. But it is planted there as small cutting by the gardener. In this way the tree started  to grow.
Rebirth can be compared to be planted by the rivers of water of God's blessings.
The great Gardener wants to plant you by His water brooks of blessings. He does it through Word and Spirit. Then you are going to bear fruit like that tree on God's time. Fruits of repentance and faith.
Who believe in the Lord Jesus, become by His Spirit as a "channel". Through that "channel" the living water flows to others (John 7:38). They are a shining light for others.
The Source Jesus still says: If any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink (John 7:37).
Drink from this Source and become a "channel," a blessing to others.
Praise God for Jesus Christ. Amen.
