Waarom? Omdat Zijn leven volmaakt is. Helemaal gaaf.

Jezus is zoek

Zoek Jezus vroeg. Wie Jezus heeft, die heeft genoeg.
God zij geprezen voor Jezus Christus. Amen.

The theme of the speech: "The first Passover of Jesus' w.r.t. Luke 2: 39-45

Jesus' life
The life of Jesus is described in detail in the Bible. The time surrounding His birth is clearly described. Only about the period of His youth we read little. Nevertheless, this information  is enough to get an idea how this was. We find this in the passage we have read.
Until His thirtieth he lived in the small town of Nazareth in northern Israel.
From this period one incident is known to us, viz His visit to Jerusalem for the Passover.
He then was twelve years old. The first twelve years of His life He grew up like all other children.
The Bible summarizes this in verse forty of Luke two. 'And the Child grew, and waxed strong in the spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was with Him'.
He became strong in spirit. That means he wanted to do God's will. Deeply mysterious words. He who is God Himself, wanted to do God's will. The Bible speaks here about the humanity of Him.
And He was filled with wisdom as well. That is a wisdom of life which is the result of the fear, obedience and love of God.

Jesus was very wise for His age. This is not surprising because He was in close relationship with his Father in heaven. His childhood is entirely dedicated to His heavenly Father. He understands God's Word like no other. His child's body is entirely subservient to God.
The Bible says that our body should be "a temple of the Holy Spirit." With Jesus was this full reality. As a child and boy he never sinned, for the grace of God was upon Him. His good attributes always come forward. He is a really good Man.

 Growing
We can also grow in spiritual wisdom. In order to obtain that, God must first lay a fertile ground, foundation in our lives. Only then we can grow in spiritual wisdom.
The Bible calls this regeneration.  God always does this through His Word, the Bible, and by His Spirit. Then that word of Him begins to bear fruit in our lives.
God also wants to fill us you with spiritual wisdom and wisdom of life. He promises it in His Word.
The Apostle James says in the first chapter, fifth verse: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives everyone liberally and without reproach, and it shall be given him." God is willing to give this wisdom. to everyone who asks Him for it ,

Easter
The Bible says that Jesus is going with His parents to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. Passover was the most important of the three annual festivals. Besides the Passover you had Pentecost and the  feast of Tabernacles.
The distance from Nazareth to Jerusalem is about 180 km.
Why was the Passover to be celebrated in Jerusalem every year? This celebration was a reminder that the people of Israel were liberated from the yoke of the Egyptians. At this release all the first-born of the Egyptians were slain and all the first-born of the Israelites saved. Why?
Because death had already been among the Israelites. In stead of the first-born, a lamb was slain. The blood of this animal was put on the doorposts. This lamb pointed symbolically to the Lamb that would die for sin: Jesus Christ. See Exodus 12. This great event was to be celebrated every year. Let's, in our minds,  take a short walk with Joseph, Mary and Jesus.

Lamb
Many people travel from all sides to Jerusalem. For many boys it's their maiden trip. What a desire  and what are they looking forward to see the holy city. During the journey there was a rather boisterous atmosphere. On their way the partygoers sing the so called Songs of Ascents. These are the psalms 120-134. In this mood they arrive in Jerusalem.
What would have been the innermost feelings of Jesus? He sees the beautiful buildings of the temple. In addition, all those people who have come to celebrate the Passover. He knows that all what's  happening here is pointing to Him . He will, just like the lamb, give His life for the salvation of sinners.
His life will be vicarious. This means that He does not live for Himself. But for those who, to their grief, have no spiritual life. Who  more or less are worrying with their sins. Their headstrong and contradictory nature. Listen: His life and death - we call this His blood - will forgive all sins. Why? Because His life is perfect. Totally sinless. This gift of life will He give as a sacrifice for sin. This is where the Passover in Jerusalem points to. Therefore lambs without any impediment or flaw are to be sacrificed.
There is none who experiences Passover as conscious as He does. He knows as a boy that He is the Lamb of God. Psalms 113-118 are sung during the whole event.
The scribes give free  biblical lessons in the adjacent buildings of the temple.Their education is in the form of dialogues, which is in question and answer form.

Jesus is missing
The week of the feast is over. All the people go home. Joseph and Mary also leave Jerusalem. Jesus is not with them, but they are in the assumption that He has joined another group. The people who attended these festivities, often traveled in groups on the road.
They did this as a precaution against robbers. It was common for women and children to walk in the front of the group and the men behind. A twelve year old boy could walk along in each group. But at night fall they they begin to get worried. Where would  He be? What would have happened to Him?
They ask it here and then there. But no one has seen Him on the return journey. Then they decide to go back to the city.

What fear can overtake parents when their children don't turn up at night. All resources are then employed to find them.
Actually, we all should be so anxious for each other. We live in a selfish society. We should sympathize with each other much more in all kind of troubles, worries and not least loneliness.
How about your help of your neighbours? Perhaps you can give that old woman or man a helping hand.
How's the sympathy with each other here 'Bij Simon the Looier'? If we don't see a visitor for weeks at a stretch, do we carefully inform then what is going on? Are we looking for each other's welfare ?
Do we also pray for each other? Just a few questions we ask each other.

Looking for Jesus
Arrived back in Jerusalem, Joseph and Mary are trying to find Jesus. It is worded so remarkably in the Bible: "seeking Him." Joseph and Mary missed Jesus as their child and therefore they seek Him.
Yet there is an incentive to seek Him in these words.
Maybe you're in need. You're full of questions of life. These may be social issues, as well as psychological questions. In all these worries you may apply to the Lord.
The questions may also be of a religious order. Maybe you're wondering what is the true religion. One says this and the other says something else. Then listen again. Then just as Joseph and Mary: Seek Him. He lets Himself be found by searchers. We hope to hear of this next week. One thing is certain: whoever finds Him, has everything. Then you get a life focused on God's glory and the good of the neighbour. Then it becomes your desire to sojourn a lot of your time in 'Jerusalem'.
What I mean by that? Jerusalem was the city where the Temple was situated. An Israelite very much liked to be in the temple. Why? There, they specially experienced something of the communion with God. Now you understand what I mean. You will like to come under the Word in the meetings. Nothing to you is too much for the Lord. You do anything. Yet once the call: Spend much time to seek Jesus in the Bible and in 'Jerusalem'. Seek Jesus much. Seek Jesus early . Who  has Jesus has enough.
Blessed be God for Jesus Christ. Amen
